Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl first. Taking advantage of small cricket ground, West Indies batsmen scored runs everywhere. Johnson Charles and Lewis collected 126 runs. After playing 48 balls, Lewis scored century in his second T20 international. His opening partner Charles scored 79 runs in just 33 balls.
After 20 overs, West Indies scored 245 runs with the loss of 6 wickets. They scored 21 sixes which means 126 runs only from sixes. India needed more than 12 runs per over to became the highest chaser in T20 internationals.
Opening batsmen of India Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma took responsibility of providing good start. India lost its first wicket in the form of Ajinkya Rahane. But on the other side, Rohit Sharma continued to hit boundaries. He hit two consecutive sixes in Narine’s over that provided him great boost.
KL Rahul survived as he was dropped by Andre Russell. It was a big mistake that made this match more interesting. Later one, KL Rahul scored his half century in 26 balls and he didn’t stop at this stage. Rahul continued scoring rate and smashed fours and sixes wherever he wanted.
Captain cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni and KL Rahul added up 50 runs in just 23 balls just at the time when needed. After 16 overs, India scored 193 with the fall of 3 wickets which means they wanted 53 runs of 24 balls.
In the last over India needed eight runs which seems pretty easy as they have already scored more than that in previous overs. Scoring so many runs in all overs is difficult than scoring big score in one over. But it went really bad for the Indian side. India needed just two runs in last ball, MS Dhoni was on the strike who got caught at short third man. West Indies won.
